All new homes built will have low-carbon heating to future proof property and reduce the UK's carbon footprint.
Chancellor Philip Hammond announced that the Government is to adopt the Future Homes Standard by 2025.
Reduce environmental impact
That means all new property will have to be built with the latest green technology, a move that should drive down energy bills and reduce the environmental impact.
New-builds will have to feature more sustainable and efficient ways of heating and other energy-saving measures.
A consultation on what the new standard will include is to be carried out later this year.
The Future Homes Standard follows the Clean Growth Grand Challenge, a mission to halve the energy use on new-builds by 2030 while also halving the cost of renovating existing property to ensure they reach a similar standard as new buildings.

Welcoming the news, Housing Secretary James Brokenshire said: "Emissions from heating existing homes is the single largest contributing factor to the UK's carbon footprint.
"We recognise that combating climate change requires the construction of new-build homes to feature more sustainable and efficient ways of heating, alongside other energy-saving measures."
